Reports from the Mesa Police Department stated that one person was left badly hurt after an early Saturday morning bicycle collision with an SUV near Gilbert Road on Southern Avenue.
Police were called in just after midnight on reports of a vehicle vs. cyclist collision and found the bicycle critically injured upon arrival. They took the victim to the nearest hospital right away.
From the initial investigation, it seems that the SUV was travelling east on Southern Avenue when it lost control and hit the bicyclist who was standing on the sidewalk on his way. It continued to collide with a light pole, a bus stop, and a block wall before it came to rest.
The test is aimed at establishing whether the driver was impaired. The outcome of the tests remains unknown to date.
Charges that may be preferred could be under consideration pending the outcome of the result of the test, said the police. The case remains under investigation, and further updates will be issued as necessary.
